Urban areas characterized by the agglomeration of higher education institutions hold strategic potential to evolve into dynamic knowledge ecosystems. For such ecosystems to grow sustainably and adaptively, it is essential to ensure the systemic integration of research and innovation functions, cross-campus collaboration and the establishment of regional research forums. In addition, the availability of supporting infrastructure, such as techno parks and collaborative spaces is crucial to create a shared knowledge system. This study analyzes the knowledge production capacity, supporting infrastructure, and collaborative governance within the Kawasan Perkotaan Jatinangor (KPJ), which is currently transforming from an educational hub into a Knowledge City. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive case study approach using the Knowledge City indicator framework, which encompasses five key dimensions human capital, research output, knowledge infrastructure, triple-helix collaboration, and institutional capacity. The findings reveal that KPJ has a strong foundation in human capital and research productivity, primarily driven by the presence of leading higher education institutions such as Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and other competitive universities. The study recommends several strengthening strategies, including the establishment of a regional research forum, collaborative funding schemes, the development of community-based techno parks, and the integration of research agendas with regional development priorities. These strategies are expected to accelerate KPJ’s transformation into an inclusive, adaptive and competitive Knowledge City.
